Offended Moi?

June 30, 2009

Well kind of…this is not the sort of shoe I wanted to have named after me. Sergio Rossi’s Madeleine shoe, costing $775 at SAKS. Pretty upset it’s beige, pretty upset it’s a wedge, pretty upset it’s got a buckle on it, BUT anyway thanks for the shout out!

Good Luck

June 29, 2009

Fashion and Football – an odd combination but there you go. I just want to say a quick Good Luck to England’s U21s who are in the final of the European Championships against Germany tonight. I’ll be supporting them and keeping my fingers crossed!

Update:  Ok, we lost 4-0…not good.

Behind the Scenes

June 29, 2009

There was limited opportunity to take photographs on this shoot, just me and a new assistant so I had lots of work to do. I also left the shoot early to do some appointments to select some dresses from various designers for a shoot we had later in the week.  As you can tell from the editorial I posted yesterday they are all cropped shots but the model still needs a pair of heels in order to help her arch her back and generally feel more sexy.

Latex & Jewellery

June 26, 2009

This is a shoot I did with Marcella for TJF, an Italian jewellery magazine – the editorial came out recently. I’ve just scanned in a selection from the spread but I think they are really strong. The powerful make-up is abit controversial. I have had a couple of comments that it looks violent but for me it works against the shine of the latex and the heavy jewellery. The rubber is suprisingly sensitive to work with: you have to remove all your rings and bracelets before you can handle it because it rips incredibly easily. It was a very cold day and the model braved the freezing studio whilst we rubbed the latex with lotion to make it glossy. It was a great shoot and she was really good at creating shapes with her hands and body whilst showing off the jewellery (you’d be suprised how many models struggle to do this). Some behind the scenes coming up.

I’m Back…

June 25, 2009

Back in mighty London. I have had  a really good holiday and I’m feeling nice and rested. I do love being brown; I know it’s not great for your skin and obviously I always use sunscreen… but Coco Chanel made it cool, so where she goes I’m  prepared to follow…

Note from the Author…

June 17, 2009

Just to say, not too many posts for the next 8days as I`m away in Turkey. I’ve spent the morning watching a huge turtle swim lazily around the bay, it looked so prehistoric- an amazıng reminder of natural selection and evolution.

Super Fly

June 14, 2009

This is an anime by Takashi Murakami for Louis Vuitton. It’s a short film called Superflat First Love, the sequel to 2003 Superflat Monogram. It is a celebration of the bright palette used in the Louis Vuitton  S/S ’09 collection. It’s interesting when designers use other media to showcase their creativity and reach out to a wider audience.

Oh my……..

June 12, 2009

I’m afraid I just had to. These are David Beckham’s new Armani adverts and oh my they are just as good as the last ones. They are slightly more stylised this time around and the slicked back hair helps to give it a very Italian feel. Photographed by the amazing Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, this has been a great collaboration and I look forward to seeing the billboards around town. Please take a moment’s silence to thank the world for David Beckham.

Shop Front

June 11, 2009

A great idea for a shop front. I have no idea what it’s advertising, Diesel radio obviously but I haven’t seen anything in the press specifically about it. The shops are on Carnaby Street in central London and I took these photographs when I was meeting a friend.

Cover Try

June 10, 2009

This is the latest cover from Harper’s Bazaar of Uma Thurman photographed by Alexi Lubomirski. I do like this cover as unlike the one of Julianne Moore this does have a real suggestion of summer. I love the shadow across her face, it looks so old Hollywood. If you made it black and white it could almost be one of those studio shots of the Lauren Becall, Veronice Lake, Rita Hayworth age. It’s also nice to see another magazine going with a slightly older woman. The shoot inside however is a little disappointing because the lighting seems to create a different mood from the cover portrait, the make-up becomes harder and her hair looks less sophisticated.
