Editorial

September 29, 2010

This editorial was in Elle Belgium in September, but Fashion Week got in the way so I’ve only just got round to posting on this. Model Anouck Lepere poses as a very enigmatic leading lady in an extensive editorial for Pablo Delfos, styled by Ann Rabeux. I love how different all these pictures are; she reveals so many sides to the ‘character’, feminine, geeky, sexy, pensive, mysterious. And the lighting is lovely throughout.

Versace S/S11 MILAN

September 27, 2010

For me another stand out collection. I loved all the zingy colours, the great shapes on the necklines and bodices and the cut outs which reveal a hint of flesh in a totally sophisticated way.  I so much prefer these looks to, for example, the shapeless volume shown by Jil Sander.

Gucci S/S11 MILAN

September 27, 2010

Gucci was bright, vibrant and sexy. The palette was perhaps more autumn jewel box – gold, orange, turquoise, violet – than spring fresh, but it was very desirable for any season. Frida Giannini has taken hold of this label so well and handled the wow factor impeccably. There’s a really good mix of clean lines and beautiful embellishment. This was one of only a few of the Milan collections I really liked. I’ve included a picture of the designer at the end because she looks so great in the dress she’s wearing.

London Fashion Week part III

September 23, 2010

My final installment of out and about photos from London Fashion Week.

Erin O’Connor

Some of the Vogue team: Miranda Almond, Calgary Avansino and Emily Zak.

Jaeger London S/S11 LONDON

September 23, 2010

I was lucky enough to get a ticket for this show but unfortunately I had a  major camera malfunction so I don’t have any of my own photos which is annoying. The collection had a mix of  pleasing knits, casual but classy separates and some more typical tailored looks.  Apparently inspired by British artists, this seemed to translate as a play with volume and asymmetry and I particularly liked the black trousers with the off-centre white stripe. In keeping with the prevailing mood there was a lot of white and beige but broken up here by some great yellows and blues.

John Rocha S/S11 LONDON

September 20, 2010

This was another show that was closed on the waiting crowd prematurely, but luckily I squeezed in, thanks to a very kind security guard and the fact I had huge wedges on so he agreed I would be able to see over the crowds. It was packed, as you can see in the picture, even Steven Jones is barely making it onto the front row bench. I had to hold my camera up high in order to get some shots and was pleasantly suprised by what it captured. There was a lot of grey and black, some lovely textured creams, all quite gothic but romantic too, Jane Eyre meets Wuthering Heights.

Bryce Aime S/S11 LONDON

September 20, 2010

Next stop was the Bryce Aime show at the On/Off location on Bloomsbury Square. I didn’t quite get this collection, there were some slightly bizarre outfits, not the most wearable, but always interesting to watch. I liked the wacky hats though.

Osman S/S11 LONDON

September 20, 2010

I had a ticket for this show and queued for the obligatory twenty minutes or so, until they shut the doors in the faces of some very unhappy people with the unbelievable statement that it was full! Which was a real shame as I loved his show last season. Anyway, here are some of the looks from the collection and you can make your own mind up as unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to.

Topshop Unique S/S11 LONDON

September 20, 2010

Supposedly themed under the title ‘Ethereal’ this was less about fairy-floaty and much more about fashion fun. Look at the  crazy hair. And the stompy high shoes. I really enjoyed these clothes: the colour palette was exciting, there were all sorts of details and surprises that meant you had to look twice  and I really liked that it was innovative and a little different from some of the prevailing trends.
