Emerging out into the dusk of London, my last show of Fashion Week
London Fashion Week Amanda Wakeley S/S10
September 28, 2009Unlike some of the bull**** some designers present in their manifestos, the description Amanda Wakeley gives for her inspiration for this collection is suprisingly honest and wonderfully evocative: “I was passionately inspired by traditionally dressed Indian men and women, both from the past and present, from Kerala to Rajasthan. The way the women wear their saris with such creative ease is truly inspirational: the soft silhouette, the flowing of fabric, the wrapping of the strong, hot colours around the body, the layering of textures, the flashes of embellishment… they wear their hair pulled back and it glistens with strength in the sun, hanging long down their backs; flashes of skin between the choli and draped sari; the wrinkled texture of the churidaar and doti pants.” The jewellery from this show was stunning.
An amazing tattoo
London Fashion Week Basso&Brooke S/S10
September 28, 2009As Style.com puts it, ‘what Bruno Basso can’t do with digital print probably isn’t worth doing’. I think this is a true assessment of this beautiful and vibrant collection. My photos really don’t do it justice so I’ve put some more precise images at the bottom.

My favourite dress of the collection, it moved so beautifully

London Fashion Week Peter Pilotto S/S10
September 26, 2009This was my favourite of the week without a doubt. I was one row and five seats away from Anna Wintour and Alexandra Schulman was right opposite me with one of my favourite stylists, Kate Phelan. The location for this show was in an old school record store, at 9am. There were lots of tired-looking fashionistas waiting outside, you had to walk through the shop and then down into the basement and I nearly tripped over when I saw I was in the same block as Anna Wintour – I walked right past her. What beautiful clothes, colours and textures! The show had a really clean feel and a sense that these could be future classics. They are perfectly crafted with lovely shots of colour pouring through them. I think often with fashion shows you can appreciate the clothes but not actually see yourself in them but this was not the case. I could have picked lots of looks from this show that I would love to wear. The make-up was nice and simple and I thought the styling was kept to a minimum which was great. I came out of this show truly inspired.
The fashion bus that shuttles everyone from one catwalk location to the next!
London Fashion Week William Tempest S/S10
September 26, 2009Not many pictures from this catwalk. I had to queue for nearly an hour and half so by the time I got in and was seated I just wanted to watch the show, I wasn’t in the best mood and my feet were killing me!
The never ending queue
London Fashion Week Josh Goot S/S10
September 25, 2009This show was in a carpark in London. I always think the fashion pack must look hilarious to passers by, all tottering in their heels towards grimy and unexpected venues! It must be quite a sight. Josh Goot is an Aussie designer and his collection was very bright, featuring some sharp shoulders. There was a good mix of casual and smart but all with a twist of orange or fuschia pink.

London Fashion Week Temperley S/S10
September 25, 2009After Aquascutum we headed to Sketch (a very cool nightclub in London) for another presentation this time from Temperley London. Alice Temperley showed in New York this year and this was for the British press to look at the collection. It was a beautifully lit room which gave it a real theatrical quality. We arrived a little early so we had cake and tea there; the cappuccino Marcella had had some of the best froth I have ever seen! I enjoyed walking round at my own pace taking photos and people-watching. Alice Temperley was there, it always great to see a designer representing their clothes. The collection was called ‘Circus’ and based on 1920’s/30’s circuses. They had built a huge central projector from scratch which showed circus acts moving around the room.
