The summer covers are coming in thick and fast and this one is…Wow! The whole thing evokes Cindy Crawford in the supermodel era of the 90’s; you would expect to open it up and find Christy, Naomi, Claudia, Linda et al in some amazing Herb Ritts shoot. But no, this cover is from Netherlands July/August Vogue and is photographed by Petrovsky&Ramone, featuring model Rianne ten Haken. Absolutely stunning, and as I always say, these are the kind of magazine covers that make people want to pick it up and pay out, NOT the generic cropped-in shots of celebrities that are everywhere now.
This cover is taken from Vogue Russia’s July edition. Photographer Richard Bush captures Brit model Lily Tomlinson with styling from Sarah Richardson. What a great shape, what a great cover. I think the really pale muted colours work so well with the knitted texture of the dress/jumper and the strong exaggeration of the arch backwards with the soft lobed sleeves makes her look like an exotic plant.
If you’ve been anywhere near a radio recently you will have heard Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe, so the generous people of Abercombie & Fitch have decided to get some of their buff boys from cities around the world to serenade us with their own special version. My own London shop on Savile Row is included (although I’ve never been in it) and I’m not sure the gentlemen’s tailors there will have seen anything quite like it before! I love how some of the boys are so into it. Obviously if you’re in the office listen to it on mute but I don’t think that really takes away from the enjoyment of the video……
I have had quite a busy second half of last week/first half of this week. I am shooting today at Pinewood Studios, although as usual I’m afraid I can’t yet disclose who for and then I’m working the following two days on a designer Lookbook. These photos below are from a shoot I did for my own work on Friday in a very cold studio in the middle of Hackney with a male model and some pants. I will say no more until I have the photos back; the morning of the shoot went very well but the second male model didn’t turn up for the afternoon session which was incredibly frustrating and the model agency was unable to get anyone to stand in at short notice. Not very impressive but at least the morning’s work looked great.
With a simple concept of some reflective ‘boxes’ this shoot could have been fashion-by-numbers but instead the imaginative refraction of the wide open space, combined with midday sun lighting, slick hair, golden tones and flawless skin creates a visually intriguing and very successful editorial. This is from Vogue Germany’s June edition, photographed by Alexi Lubomirski and styled by editor Christiane Arp, with model Carolyn Murphy striking some strong and sexy poses.
After a pretty shocking weekend of weather in London and more rain still to come, I thought I’d post on holidays to come! How about the biggest outdoor pool in the world? Built in Chile at The Crystal Lagoon at San Alfonso del Mar resort, this is 20x olympic size, covers 20 acres and holds 66million gallons of water. It’s insane! I’m not totally sure I like it; it just seems too big and would you really want to be avoiding sailing boats whilst you try to have a peaceful swim? But there’s no denying that looking at all that lovely turquoise water certainly certainly makes me discontented with the urban drizzle.
With over 1,000 boats mustering for the seven-mile-long flotilla on the Thames today and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in full swing, I want to wish everyone a great Bank Holiday weekend and I hope the weather doesn’t spoil your plans.
