London Fashion Week Ashish A/W10

February 26, 2010

The Ashish show was my last for this London Fashion Week as I was working backstage the rest of the day for a show by a designer called Saro (more of that to come later). I was also working yesterday, on a shoot,  so I am a little behind with putting up all my pictures from the week etc but it will all come, I promise. So back to Ashish: it was an interesting show with lots of baggy knitwear and signature colourful sequins – the first look out was actually sequinned pjs! The styling was tramp chic I guess. For me not the most accessible collection I’ve seen from this label and I’m not sure I want to replicate the Pippi Longstocking comes up to town look, but I loved the bright colours and prints.

London Fashion Week Roksanda Ilincic A/W10

February 24, 2010

Roksanda Ilincic was showing at On/Off this season. I love her clothes, they are so feminine but with details and qualities that make them statement but wearable pieces. I was lucky enough to get a seat for this show, but in a rather odd place, so I found myself distracted by the models already undoing zips and jackets before they’d disappeared from my eyeline! With the lights against me I didn’t feel I got the best pictures from this so I’ve added a couple from Style.com to highlight the details and colours that mine lack. The collection was luxurious and silky, with swathes of fabric beautifully draped around the body in deep blues, browns and pinks; there was fur and a glamorous sheen and a new longer hemline. Lots of items in this collection could be worn dressed up or dressed down, which is something she is excels at. All the models with their crazy curls looked so comfortable and sexy in the clothes and it was definitely one of those collections you could visualise yourself in this autumn.

Each seat had a rose on it, this is mine! But unfortunately it suffocated in my bag.

London Fashion Week Hermione de Paula A/W10

February 24, 2010

I saw this show at Vauxhall Fashion Scout.  Hermione de Paula is their Merit Award winner and follows in the footsteps of William Tempest (whose clothes have been worn by Emma Watson and Victoria Beckham) and David Koma (whose fans include Beyonce and Cheryl Cole). Hermione studied at Central Saint Martin’s and has worked for Galliano, McQueen and Dior which helped her develop her own design aesthetic with its emphasis on hand painted materials and collage prints. This collection was entitled ‘Polly Crystalline’ and was all about a fantasy femme fatale who is fitted tightly into garments that accentuate and yet entrap her beauty. The dresses were therefore aggressively structured and made up in powerful black and white prints and the models wore multi-toned, futuristic wigs.

London Fashion Week Tessa Edwards

February 23, 2010

Tessa Edwards was one of the designers exhibiting at the On/Off space at Victoria House. I thought all the draping and swirls in the contrasted fabrics was really unexpected in a good way and I loved all the jewellery – these are some serious earrings. I saw a slight 80s influence in the collection. Really enjoyed looking at the presentation with its well crafted detailing.

London Fashion Week Osman A/W10

February 22, 2010

I think Osman Yousefzada this morning was one of my favourite shows so far. There was a euro sophistication to it – it seemed aimed at a more grown up woman who travelled, had great luggage and a great taste in clothes. I’ve been a fan of Osman’s for a couple of seasons now. I loved the shoes, with the thick wedge and added embellishment, and the large fluorescent clutches were the perfect complement. The full length dresses flowed beautifully over the models’ bodies and moved fluidly up and down the catwalk. The make-up was very simple and I liked the swept back hair with the curls flowing down the back. It was a large collection, hence all the photos below, but I kept going through and thinking I like that one, and that one and definitely that one…you get the idea.  One of my favourite models, Sessilee Lopez, was in the show –  she’s so stunning and has a great walk.

London Fashion Week Bryce Aime A/W10

February 22, 2010

I managed to see this show before I had to head to the country for a wedding this weekend (just got back and fairly exhausted. Don’t know how country people do it, the father of the groom still going at 5am and up and cheerful at 1pm for a Hog Roast, or in my case a vegetarian quiche.) Anyway, back to LFW, for me this show was more about separates, with lots of trousers and jackets that could be taken off the runway and made more wearable with your own personal style. Not crazy about the hairbands but liked all the textures and exposed zips. The last couple of looks were very graphic, I love the burgundy bow-like structures at the back, I think it’s always nice to end a show with some wow factor. An interesting collection.

Exit left, pursued by bear!

London Fashion Week Gemma Slack A/W10

February 21, 2010

This presentation was one of Vauxhall Fashion Scout’s, which is another platform for new talent. Again a rather gothic themed collection with some very interesting headpieces, lots of leather and chains and a slight S&M undertone.

London Fashion Week Ashley Isham A/W10

February 21, 2010

This show was on Friday and I really enjoyed it. It was elegant and flattering with hints of the military in the gilded shoulders and sash details.  Lots of very wearable evening dresses that I can imagine stylists eagerly picking up for red carpet clients. An absolutely heavenly colour palette ranging through burgundy, lilac, apricot and burnt gold. Model Sophie Anderton and Jodie Harsh were in front row attendance.

London Fashion Week Charlie Le Mindu A/W10

February 20, 2010

Charlie Le Mindu was my first show yesterday morning as he launched On/Off, and it was a hair spectacular! It was avant garde and pretty hardcore. Definitely not for the Erdem crowd but the music was great and it’s always interesting to see the wilder and more theatrical end of the spectrum. Interesting for sure. La Roux singer Elly Jackson turned up to watch the gothic madness!

1st Day London Fashion Week

February 19, 2010

So I was at my first On/Off show this morning, they present the up and coming designers for LFW, this year at Victoria House. It’s a cool arty space for the new designers to showcase their work in. I apologise for not having names for all the exhibiting designers but I was in the queue and there is a lot of  gentle elbowing in the back to move you along, or sideways, or where ever, and you need to keep your wits about you so that when they call out for green stickers, or pink or even gold circles for the runway, you are ready…! And I thought I would have a chance to go back and get names but we were channelled out in a different direction. Annoyingly I’m going to miss some shows this weekend due to a wedding (why don’t people check Fashion Week schedules before they book dates?!) but I’m hoping to see a good few more.
