London Fashion Week has arrived and the sun shone on London Town for the opening day. As always it’s a super busy time for anyone in the fashion industry. My first show was at 9am this morning and I had minor wardrobe issues because of this unpredictable weather (more of that later), but managed to sort out something. Even at 9am Somerset House was buzzing and ready to go. After the show I located Tom’s Cafe in Somerset House (Tom Conran’s latest venture) and enjoyed a latte and a delicious piece of cake; due to earlier clothes meltdown I hadn’t had time for breakfast and who doesn’t enjoy cake in the morning? Anyway, more shows followed and I have been editing photos ever since. I was at an Armani event last night at Soho House which kickstarted my fashion week nicely and have more shows tomorrow though luckily not too early.

September 17, 2010Calvin Klein S/S11 NYC
September 17, 2010What if you can’t carry off white or beige? What are you going to wear next summer? British weather is not particulary conducive to these colours so I’m concerned already, but if you have the climate for it, what better than some minimalist Calvin Klein? In sheathes of draped silks with a subtle feminity, this woman is not brazenly sexy and she has urban class.

J. Mendel S/S11 NYC
September 17, 2010Gilles Mendel has been doing a lot of design collaboration with the ballet lately and these dreamy dresses would bring out the twirling pirouettes in any of us. What made all the difference were the modern orange lips and ribbon shoes to add contrast to the pale palette and wafting fabrics . Beautifully draped, elegant and desirable.

Paul Costelloe S/S11 LONDON
September 17, 2010Wearable and whimsical, Paul Costelloe opened London Fashion Week with a surprisingly young and fresh collection. Great old school music kept the front row toe-tapping throughout, with The Daily Telegraph’s Hilary Alexander throwing some shapes and I’m definitely going to email the PR company to find out what it was. Models had teased beehives, lots of sass and struck flirty poses at the end of the runways. It was more genuinely summery than some of the collections have been, with cute shapes in great metallics. The men looked sharp and Costelloe’s six sons closed the show in very dapper suits.
