New York

October 13, 2009

I am in New York this week so posting will probably be a little sporadic! I absolutely love it here and although it’s a tad grey and rainy it can’t dampen my love of this city. Hope to update more later.

In These Shoes?

October 10, 2009

I doubt you’d survive! Half fawn hoof, half pincer, these shoes from Alexander McQueen s/s10 ‘ready to wear’ are anything but! There has been so much press about these shoes but I have to post them up here because they really are truly amazing pieces of art, engineering and architecture. McQueen never does things by half and these shoes just show how in every collection he pushes the boundaries and never fails to inspire. I love him and these shoes are the real deal!

Maserati Dawn till Dusk

October 9, 2009

At last I can put up my behind-the-scenes photos of the shoot I mentioned before, located at an airfield on a boiling hot day earlier in the summer.  It was for Maserati and was shot by the legendary Clive Arrowsmith.

Cover Try

October 7, 2009

This is Elle’s ‘The Women in Hollywood” November 09 issue US. There is a real mix of concepts here. I prefer it when there are multiple covers to have a theme running through them. I think I like Emily Blunt’s cover best: the out of focus leaves in the fore ground work really well, although it doesn’t look autumnal. Katie Holmes looks ok but I think an amazing belt or necklace would have made this more of a cover. I think it’s proportionally too long in the body and I so preferred her hair short! Julianne Moore’s cover is quite classic, it has a Vermeer quality to it, but seems most out of place with the other covers. Also I’d like the hair to somehow be held away from her face with piece of costume jewellery which would also break up the textures.  Renee Zellweger’s is lovely, the texture of the fabric andthe simple hair and make-up create a great overall look. The final one of Zoe Saldana, who I had to IMDb and I’m still none the wiser, looks more suited to a bridal magazine and because I have no clue who she is I can’t really comment further!

My First Billboard!!

October 7, 2009

While I was driving today I suddenly saw this out of the corner of my eye: I worked on the shoot for the Natalie Imbruglia album and although I’ve obviously seen the album cover, I haven’t seen the rest. Of course I had to pull over and luckily I had my trusty Canon G10 camera with me so I managed to get a picture.

Country Life

October 5, 2009

I was at a family wedding this weekend. A four hour drive up the motorway into the depths of the country. My two older  siblings and  I were squeezed into the back of our car; we aren’t normally all together and with my brother being 6’4 it was a little too close for comfort.  There was bad traffic too, due to a dead body found on the motorway, so we only had 15 minutes to get ready.  I wore a silver brocaded coat over a raspberry Vivienne Westwood dress.  It was raining when we arrived at the 14th century church but when we all spilled outside the clouds had cleared, the sun was out and the cobbles shone in the wet.  The wedding was lovely and there was lots of drinking and dancing that lasted well into the early hours of Sunday morning.  All the dinner tables were named after horses the bride had ridden (that side of my family are all keen riders, racing, eventing etc and some are professional). There was a lunch the next day as well so I managed to have a quick walk round the farm to take pictures of some of the animals.

Clouds on the way home

Yves for every Eve

October 2, 2009

I am not a huge make-up consumer; obviously I wear it, I’m unfortunately not gifted enough to go without, but I don’t rush out to buy the latest vibrating mascara (what’s that all about??!) and I tend not to read articles in beauty pages of magazines. But this YSL compact is so beautiful with the engraved writing, it takes the whole idea of packaging into an area where you practically want to buy it purely as an accessory!
