Lanvin S/S11 PARIS

October 4, 2010

I just love the extravagant movement in this first photo, it’s all about the drama and the walk and that’s why it had to go up. This was an interesting mix from Alber Elbaz for Lanvin, pairing flowing fabrics barely held together over lots of bare skin with more military outfits with their metal and beaded details that showed the harder edge that always creeps in somewhere. There was great colour crescendoing through the show  from beige to pink to yellow to orange.

Roland Mouret S/S11 PARIS

October 4, 2010

After some troubles with his business and some diversions with the designing, this is Roland Mouret back to his best. His work is famously female friendly and extremely wearable. Some of the looks hugged the body’s curves beautifully and some, just as successful, moved over it more fluidly. I loved his mix of colours and the blue jersey dress (fourth picture below) is a stand out.

Isabel Marant S/S11 PARIS

October 4, 2010

This was relaxed chic with an edge in typical Marant fashion. There is such momentum and hype behind her name just now that everything she produces is  a sell out item.  This collection had great wearable looks for different ages while still feeling young and cool. This season is something of an ode to a recent trip to California which has softened her usual urban vibe and added something more sporty.

Christian Dior S/S11 PARIS

October 4, 2010

Christian Dior produced a colourful riff on all things aye aye sailor. This was exuberant Galliano, zingy colours, Hawaiian prints, tassles, feathers, big curls and broad fringes, ribboned shoes.  He can always produce a good show.

Giorgio Armani S/S11 MILAN

October 4, 2010

A slightly uneven collection from Giorgio Armani, with some sheer longer length underskirts, for me some of these worked and some didn’t. Overall it’s an elegant series of looks, if a bit confused and perhaps heavy for a summer wardrobe, though several other designers didn’t stick strictly to their seasons. The muted palette is interesting and different from the brights typical of other shows.
