Jaeger S/S12 London

September 19, 2011

Jaeger went with a muted palette this season, with the occasional accent of dark yellow, aqua, navy and stripes.  Tunic and shift shapes, shorts and culottes were presented with some clever cutout detailing, which will look good when we emerge from next winter. Scallopped edging both large and small was a feature, as were some bow details which I liked less. I liked the slick hair with the side pony and the simple make-up which has been a definite trend. In general I’ve noticed that with the exception of sunglasses very few accessories have been sent done the runways this time around, so maybe this is a bit of minimalism to set against the perceived extravagance of fashion and to suit the economic mood.

People Watching at LFW

September 19, 2011

There is always time to people-watch as you queue for shows and some very extrovert, colourful, black, odd, dull, twisted, overthought, under-worn, stylish things walk by you. So here are some of the good, the bad and the the rest, by no means a collection of my taste but it’s fun to look and pass gentle judgment.

Basso & Brooke S/S12 London

September 19, 2011

You know you’re always going to get riotous patterns, motifs and colours all combined in original prints and this season was no exception. The way the duo work is that Bruno Basso designs the prints and Chris Brooke cuts the designs to make the most of them. Not only were there flowers and leaves, there were hints at wood grain, scales, water, the colours of the sky, and I loved the way they mixed this with some deceptively simple folding and draping onto the body. These dresses aren’t for retiring or the colour shy: they zinged down the runway to a techno beat.  This show was staged in a large empty old sorting office but nevertheless felt underground and edgy.
